“Not Turmeric,” the plant insisted…“TUMERIC”, she said.
She told me to ditch that extra “r” because it’s like a crack in the sidewalk you trip over on a beautiful sunny day.
Plants have opinions too, it turns out; and rightly so.
They’ve been on the job successfully for eons, and are still waiting for validation and equal rights.
Turmeric gets plenty of attention, but still no top billing yet…despite 1800 peer reviewed public studies and and 152 proven pharmacological actions cited in Pub Med.
Among the spices of India, curry is king, and has now been proven in labs to be antioxidant, cardioprotective; cancer preventive; and anti-hyperglycemic.
Of all the ingredients in curry, none are more studied than turmeric.
Most research studies on Turmeric use only one single component: curcumin.
As a food spice, we grind and use the root. That’s always what i would advise. Eat the whole food, not an isolate. However, if you prefer, curcumin is favored as a supplement in any form: capsules, powder, or tea.
Curcumin, is now also recognized as a potent anti-viral against SARS.
And it gets even better; much better, in fact, than i even imagined.
Turmeric boosts Nitric Oxide levels, so it helps repair epithelial tissue - membranes and blood vessels - boosting micro-circulation in the body and brain.
Turmeric is also anti-atherosclerotic - it helps to dissolve and wash away accumulated plaques in the blood vessels, restoring circulation.
All benefits, sans side effects, courtesy of a humble plant.
India’s medical system, Ayurveda, lacks nothing. As a complete system of health and medicine, every practice and herbal recipe serves to regenerate, strengthen, and rebuild.
Ayurveda emphasizes a balanced lifestyle to optimize health. Plants and herbs play a huge part. Long before being “discovered” and proclaimed therapeutic by the whitecoats, humble plants went about making friends, sprouting, and spreading their life-saving magical powers all over the world.
Modern science still cannot grasp the interconnectedness of all things; the biological interactions between a whole food and a whole human; the value of not fractionating the parts, because their combined potency is exponentially greater; the concept that the body recalibrates as a whole, and not a single biochemical response. Turmeric shines nonetheless; in fact, she glows.
TURMERIC. A root underground so golden red like the sun…
HOW could this be?
Sure the bright hue derives from the curcumin, but what’s behind that?
The sun.
Turmeric, one of our most potent antioxidants, wears the cloak of the sun, reflecting its capacity to purify, energize, and renew. Turmeric is pure life force.
Life absorbs, reflects, and is powered by the sun.
Life paints without reserve from infinite prisms, each shade a language of light. Life knows how to thrive.
Could Turmeric save the world?
It’s highly possible, but there’s only one real way to know. Invite her in.
As for me, it’s “curry with everything” as far as this soul can see…

Jet; thank you for your sharing!
I FORGOT TO TELL EVERYONE: How to POTENTIATE TURMERIC : with healthy fats (ghee, sesame oil, coconut oil) - makes it hundreds of times more bioavailable! That means high absorption, using less.
Some folks don't love the taste - i do!
ANYHOW, ADD HEALTHY OIL to increase the benefits of this miracle ally.
I just spent an hour this morning making a huge mixed vegetable with coconut milk "curry" with lots of turmeric... delish and healthy! BTW, "curry" is an English word that was erroneously used at first but then took over as the name to describe most Indian dishes https://indiaphile.info/what-is-curry-and-a-recipe-for-garam-masala/
PS you found Dr Suneel Dhand! I really like him...
