Thank you Yolanda for this amazing interview with your unnamed friend! It was of great interest to me because I'm a retired home-birth nurse midwife, and have had to deal with the intensity of managing excessive bleeds several times in the home setting. I have a couple of offerings that came up for me while listening to this podcast. One is that before becoming a midwife, I worked in "Labor and Delivery" at a local hospital and it was made clear to us there and in my nurses training that if a practitioner forces a patient to take a medicine or undergo a procedure that she doesn't want, it's considered battery and can be prosecuted in a court of law. I wonder if there's such a thing as "verbal battery," as this poor mother certainly endured that! Secondly, I was impressed not only with your friend's expertise in stopping a bleed but also that she had the forethought to contact a hospital back east which had a protocol for dealing with patients who refuse blood. I just want to add that there's also a Seventh Day Adventist hospital in southern California called Loma Linda University Medical Center that will also share their protocols when requested. Thanks again for this great interview!
